Beschreibung
Kaum ein Forschungsbegriff ist so problematisch wie der „Absolutismus“. In Lehrplänen und in der breiten Öffentlichkeit werden darunter – in unreflektierter Weise und häufig am Beispiel des Hofes von König Ludwig XIV. in Versailles – eine Epoche und gleichzeitig ein Herrschaftskonzept verstanden. Seit Ende des 20. Jahrhunderts hat die massive Kritik der Forschung an dieser Konzeption dazu geführt, dass in wissenschaftlichen Publikationen heute vielfach der Epochenbegriff „Barock“ an Stelle von „Absolutismus“ verwendet wird. Damit wird ein kulturgeschichtlicher Zugang favorisiert, der durch die dichte Synthese von Literatur, Kunst und Musik geprägt ist. Die Vorlesung möchte die zweite Hälfte des 17. Jahrhunderts stärker aus dieser Perspektive beleuchten und dabei – neben der Ereignisgeschichte dieser Zeit – wichtige Themenfelder der Kunst-, Literatur- und Musikgeschichte wie auch der Mentalitätsgeschichte und Kirchengeschichte behandeln.
