Dem Seminar liegt zunächst ein Verständnis von Medienbildung als interdisziplinäres Forschungs- und Praxisfeld zu Grunde, das sich mit kulturellen Praktiken des Umgangs mit ganz unterschiedlichen ästhetischen wie informationellen Medienformen in diversen Kontexten – durchaus auch außerhalb schulischer Lehr- und Lernsituationen – befasst. Vor diesem Hintergrund werden wir uns am Beispiel des Computerspiels mit den Voraussetzungen für das ästhetische Verstehen von Medien jenseits des literarischen Textes beschäftigen, bei dem es sich – durchaus auch im Sinne der Kultusministerkonferenz – um einen zunehmend relevanten Kompetenzbereich von ‚Bildung in der digitalen Welt‘ handelt. Ziel ist dabei einerseits die Einübung medienspezifischer Analyseverfahren, die auf die ästhetische ‚Form‘ im Gegensatz zum narrativen ‚Inhalt‘ von Computerspielen fokussieren. Andererseits wollen wir die theoretisch fundierte Analyse konkreter Computerspiele mit der Reflexion von Möglichkeiten und Grenzen ihrer Vermittlung in verschiedenen Lehr- und Lernkontexten verbinden.
Der Fokus des Seminars wird auf sogenannten Indie Games als Analyseobjekten liegen – es geht also schwerpunktmäßig um solche Computerspiele, die unabhängig von großen Publishern und meist mit verhältnismäßig kleinen Budgets und Teams entwickelt wurden und sich häufig darum bemühen, auch als ‚ästhetisch unabhängig‘ zu erscheinen indem sie sich in ihrer Gestaltung von in traditionellen industriellen Arrangements produzierten, sogenannten AAA-Computerspielen abzusetzen versuchen. Mit Blick auf hier produktiv zu machende analyseleitende Fragen werden wir dabei systematisch unterscheiden zwischen (1) der audiovisuellen Gestaltung von Computerspielen, die ihre audiovisuelle Ästhetik bestimmt, (2) der Spielmechanik und den Spielzielen, die das Spielgeschehen und die ludische Ästhetik von Computerspielen bestimmen und (3) den durch Computerspiele eingesetzten Strategien narrativer Darstellung, die ihre narrative Ästhetik bestimmen.
Die Bereitschaft zur Lektüre deutsch- und englischsprachiger Forschungsliteratur sowie zur Erarbeitung und Präsentation aktueller Fallstudien in mündlicher und schriftlicher Form wird vorausgesetzt. Als studienbegleitende Prüfung ist ein Referat (20–30 Minuten zzgl. 10–20 Minuten Diskussion) mit Ausarbeitung (ca. 10 Seiten) vorgesehen. Als Studiennachweis ist (je nach Teilnehmer*innenzahl) ein Referat (20–30 Minuten zzgl. 10–20 Minuten Diskussion) oder eine schriftliche Ausarbeitung (ca. 10 Seiten) vorgesehen.
